Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. In public speaking, as in any form of communication, there are five basic elements, often expressed as "who is saying what to whom using what medium with what effects?" The purpose of public speaking can range from simply transmitting information, to motivating people to act, to simply telling a story. Good orators should be able to change the emotions of their listeners, not just inform them. Public speaking can also be considered a discourse community. Interpersonal communication and public speaking have several components that embrace such things as motivational speaking, leadership/personal development, business, customer service, large group communication, and mass communication. Public speaking can be a powerful tool to use for purposes such as motivation, influence, persuasion, informing, translation, or simply entertaining. From Wikipedia under the

I have a severe public speaking phobia. Knowledge of the subject does not works for me because I get really nervous even when I have to read something I know or when talking in front of just 5 people I don't know well. Some of my symptoms are blushing, sweating, fast heart beating, and run out of air even if I'm speaking slowly, and sometimes I can not continue speaking. I was wandering if I can take Lorazepam, or some medication. I can not join Toastmasters either because I'm not from USA. Asked by **MoX** - Sun Feb 4 00:27:48 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. My solution is a little drastic, but it could work. Try giving a speech in front of people that you know well. But here's the curveball. Try giving the speech completely naked. It'll be tough at first, but if you can calm down and deliver a speech naked, you should have no problem doing them fully clothed. Was it night or day? Use lots of little detail, how the room looked, how you felt, "Settling down after a long day of work/school, it was just like any other night. I was in my room finishing up a short novella when suddenly I heard footsteps outside my window. Of course at the time I thought nothing of it, as neighborhood cats seemed to run rampant inbetween houses at all times of the day. It wasnt until I heard the loud crash of breaking glass that my heart gave a jump start..." Public speaking can be really hard and un-nerving, however... be yourself would be my main tip, you also have to remember to be loud, be clear, be confident.Confidence will help you win over the audience and judges, if you keep your head up at all times, look alert and calm dont figit this will loose you the audience, so dont sway, or keep moving your hands etc, remember a good posture and friendly but not over bearing expression. interviews... -Aim for clarity, brevity and above all, honesty. Give honest answers with a positive tone. -Be specific in your answers -Be friendly yet formal -Keep jewelry to a minimum- A nice necklace, tennis bracelet and small earrings will work. -Try to greet all judges when you are introduced by shaking… [cont.] Answered by kitty - Mon Jun 29 11:30:19 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Public Speaking" Quotes about public speaking:
