The Philippines was occupied by the British during the seven year war. Could it be considered a former colony?
Q. The Philippines was occupied by the British during the seven year war. Could it be considered a former colony? And therefore be eligible for membership to Commonwealth? For those who have no idea but answer anyway: Seven Years' War "Battles occurred in India, North America, Europe, the Caribbean isles, the Philippines and coastal Africa. " "The Royal Navy captured the French sugar colonies of Guadeloupe in 1759 and Martinique in 1762, as well as the Spanish cities of Havana in Cuba and Manila in the Philippines."

A. Wow -- this is certainly a stretch, bro. Wikipedia, for starters, is a great resource, but subject to correction, as this "fact" will certainly be edited. Whether it was occupied or not, this "fact" is not taught in the Philippines (and there's no reason to have left it out). The Spanish colonized the Philippines from the time of Magellan until the American period from President McKinley's term until the end of WW II. Wikipedia got this one wrong.

Why did Elizabeth Filkin lose her job in the British Parliament in 2002?
Q. She was a Member of the House of Commons, as well as the Commissioner on Standards, which watches out for corruption among the agencies and officials of the British government. Did she do her job "too well," creating enemies of powerful people who were "spanked" after she exposed their shady doings? Did her remarks about the violence of Jewish settlers in Occupied Palestine have something to do with the decision not to reappoint her to her post?

A. The Channel Islands were occupied by Germany during the Second World War. The British military did not want to deplete its limited resources (the army had lost much of its equipment in France) to defend the islands. With the Battle of Britain coming, the British pulled back to defend the main island. The German garrisons were bypassed during the Normandy invasion in 1944. Those garrisons did not surrender until the unconditional of Germany in May of 1945. "k"- Your answer is not completely factual. There were many invasions of the British isles: Romans, Vikings, and Anglo-Saxons. The Norman invasion of 1066 was the last successful invasion.
