From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Florida ( / ˈ f l ɒr ɪ d ə /) is a state of the United States. It is located in the Southeastern United States, bordering Alabama to the northwest and Georgia to the north. Much of the land mass of the state is a large peninsula with the Gulf of Mexico to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Caribbean to the south. Florida was admitted as the 27th U.S. state in 1845, after over three hundred years of settlement and colonization by Europeans. With an area of 65,758 square miles (170,306 km), it is ranked 22nd in size among the 50 U.S. states. Florida has the most coastline in the Contiguous United States encompassing approximately 1,200 miles. The state has four large urban areas, a number of smaller industrial cities, and many small towns. Florida is nicknamed the "Sunshine State" because of its generally warm climate—subtropical in the northern and central regions of the state, with a true tropical climate in the southern portion. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the state population was 18,537,969 in 2009, ranking Florida as the fourth most populous state in the U.S. Tallahassee is the state capital, Jacksonville is the largest city, and the South Florida metropolitan area is the largest metropolitan area. GNU Free Documentation License What is the law in Florida for hiring and criminal records? Q. I want to know how far back the state of Florida can go to trace a criminal background. Is there a limit? My friend is moving here because she is struggling in Connecticut to find a job because her felony is following her. This was in 1989. She has no record since then. She is coming to Florida to try to start a new life. And I was curious to find out if anyone knew how far back they look when applying for a job. Thanks for anyone's help! Really appreciate it! If she only committed one crime, and has been clean since, she should go and talk to a lawyer in CT to see if she can get her record expunged as it is hampering her ability to stay a productive citizen. Tell her to quit looking for work in large companies and quit telling her future bosses about her felony, Especially if it is a small business and a low paying job, small companies just do not bother to pay to check employees backgrounds like that. The only problem she would have would be if she gets in the company and then does a lousy job. I have been known to pull credit checks and criminal background checks after the employee is working because we want to fire them and don't want to worry… [cont.] Answered by Gem - Tue Sep 11 10:32:41 2007 What is the best online florida driving school for avoiding points after a ticket? Q. I'm looking for a college in Florida that offers family housing, as I'm a single mommy and working full time and going to school full time is asking a bit much when there are only twenty four hours in a day. Plus, apartment hunting is a bit hard when you're half a country away. I'd prefer it be in Southern Florida, the Tampa area to be exact, but any in Florida would be helpful. I've tried a lot of college search engines and have found practically nothing. Thanks. Asked by Daisy Danger - Fri Jul 10 17:08:40 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A.
