How does tourism affect circular flow in an economy?
Q. I'm under the impression that an economy that did not previously have an international sector would develop one as a result of tourism. Because aren't tourists considered an import? I just need help understanding how adding tourism to an economy changes the overall circular flow of the economy. Okay, the tourism acting as more of an export than a import makes sense. And arin, I live in Seminole about 10 min from Treasure Island so it was cool that you could bring the concept home for me.
Asked by Keely - Wed Dec 3 13:45:47 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Circular flow: Foreign tourists spend money and that money generates higher incomes, which is then spent by individuals on more products and services, meaning more income for businesses, meaning higher incomes, etc. imports? Tourism money acts more like exports than imports, since a country is selling its resources (natural beauty) and services (hotels, restaurants) in return for foreign money.

What is spa contribution for tourism and how to make a spa package?
Q. I'm thinking to design a new spa package which will include in tour package and will allow tourists to experience our spa and could be one of our tourism object. We were just having a grand opening of our spa and think this will be a great idea to introduce our spa and can increase its revenue. This package will be offered to local travel agents and bridal-saloons. How to design a good & interesting spa package, how to decide the selling price & how to sell it? Thank you.

A. Hi, spa packages are actually getting popular nowadys. Not just the usual spa, people are going more for the holistic and healing spas programs. Key aim of the packages should be targeting relaxation, wellness and health. You did not say where you are located, so I will not be able to offer much. But take a look at how this is done, like in Thailand. There are spas in hotels and packages offered cover the rooms, spa treatment and dietary health advice. This can be a 1-day, 2-day or even 3-day packages. So the guests gets pampered without having to leave the comfort of the hotel or resort room. Standalone spa may be a bit difficult as you can only offer the treatment. Try to have a nearby accommodation tied in for a total package deal. A… [cont.]

Will medical tourism come to the US with the dollar losing value?
Q. I've noticed that the medical tourism industry uses price v quality as a benefit of traveling from US to other countries for plastic surgery, dental procedures, etc. Do you think that now that the dollar is weaker that people will come from other countries to the US - to get a good deal on these procedures. More specifically from Europe where the Euro is strong. Why or why not? I neglected to specify: for elective procedures like cosmetic surgery, cosmetic dentistry. Not life saving medical procedures...

A. The cost of our health care is far too high. Even a falling dollar cannot make us competitive with countries like India and Thailand.

A. Hello i have just taking the Travel & Tourism First Diploma at college as i though the same liked the idea of traveling. There are not many practical jobs in the industry as i have now found out . You could be a Tour Rep or an oversea's rep basically the same thing, but you get to stay in a country up to 6 months, you would have to speak another language though . Your could work in a hotel which can have options to travel as you could work in a hotel anywhere in the world . You could work as part of a Tour Operator which can allow you to travel also. Maybe you should look for a change in direction and look at somthing different . hope this helps :)

A. The is good; but, the Tourism Department can do better by updating it quarterly or biannually. Other good tourism sites are the Philippines' provincial and city websites where each province, town or city feature their main tourist attractions. There are also websites created by volunteers who promote their locality's main and not so popular attractions. Here are some websites. add: Agree with Tina and Jan-na on Ivan Henares and wayspoint. There are also other sites to check out. still, the most effective way to promote our country is by word of mouth; and, how we conduct ourselves, as Filipinos, at home and in other countries. Asked by lenastar_20 - Thu Mar 29 13:52:15 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1. accomodation prices - only tourist with money can afford to visit PR 2. salaries in Dominican Republic are a third or even less what the tourism industry has to pay to their employees in PR, therefore rates are going to be lower 3. Dominican Republic is not only our direct competition, Cancun is a top destination that people rather visit because of prices as well 4. In order for PR to bring more visitors they would have to adjust their marketing strategies and start focusing on the mass of the population. With money or not they do vacation. 5. A. Tourism is important to the Cuban economy (currently accounting for $2B revenues within the country's $37B GDP). But your question could be asked of any place, couldn't it? What proof is there that money from tourism is going to the poor people in the slums of Liverpool, Washington DC, Paris, or Johannesburg? I have two observations that lead me to believe that tourism dollars are being distributed widely (as opposed to narrowly, as we have in capitalist countries). First, my observation in Cuba was that the disparity in income between the wealthiest and the poorest was the smallest compared to a dozen other countries I've visited. Second, ordinary people in Cuba told me that things had been extremely difficult at the beginning… [cont.]

Potential for dependency on tourism, thus suffering when tourist numbers are low. 2. Over time, tourism can alter the behavior of native populations, creating a society of beggars.

What can we do about the threats associated with space tourism and flying cars?
Q. Should space tourism and flying cars have strict regulation? Space tourism is getting much closer. It is also foreseeable that flying cars will become a reality this century. Shouldn't we care about environmental and aesthetic concerns regarding this? We should never be too quick to act when it comes to embracing new technology. If we do embrace it too quickly, I envision a world filled with space pollution and eye soars that we can never escape. Imagine going to your favorite nature getaway and having cars flying above you. Imagine environmental air concerns expanding beyond our atmosphere into outer space. Or looking up to the sky and barely being able to see the stars because of all the manmade objects in the air. People don'tu nderstand that this will effect their life, maybe not soon but it will. And it will effect our grandchildern. All this polution is really taking a toll. Everyone knows it but nobody wants to admit it and do something about it. I think all we can do is protest against this kind of stuff and really try and bring up the topic of polution.
