A. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or home as we call it, doesn't have a desert. We are getting drier in some parts, e.g. the South East but nowhere as dry as a desert. Hope that helps.

A. Good question. Winston Churchill in his 'History of the English Speaking Peoples' is a good place to start. Many folk would say that the unique combination of political, religious and scientific institutions and personal economic values in the UK. A simpler view would be that England just got to market first in terms of technological innovation vis a vis the Industrial Revolution. It's a fine argument for classic liberals to make, but it ignores the complex brew of social and economic forces at work. On a more right brained tack: the unique genius of the UK is part of the flavor of the modern world. If you cook a soup and try to discern the flavor of the parsnips separately from the rest of the soup, you will need to go back and taste… [cont.]

In which year was homosexuality decriminalized in the United Kingdom and the United States?
Q. Which state in USA was the first to decriminalize homosexual acts, and are there still states where it is illegal? And what about the United Kingdom?
Asked by Marianne - Sat May 29 05:15:17 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Homosexuality was legalized in England and Wales in July of 1967. It made sex between two men in the privacy of their own home legal. This law was also expanded to Scotland in 1980 and then in Northern Ireland in 1982 making sex between two men legal. However, there was some discrimination in the law. For example, it made gay group sex illegal while hetero group sex was legal. And when legalized, the age of consent for gay men was 21. In 1994, it was lowered to 18 and then in 2000 it was lowered to 16( the same age of consent as straight sex.) In 2004 discrimination in the penal code concering gay men was removed. In the U.S., Illinois was the first state to decriminalize sodomy in 1962. By 1984, 25 out of the 50 states decriminalized… [cont.]

UK is a very vast country dear.and the types of music really differs from one place to another.it all depends upon your tastes.i meant,do you want to go for the folkoric musics or the usual which are Pop , RNB ,Dancehall and etc etc. if you are thinking of listening to the Folkore musics then i would suggest you to try listening to the Scotlands musics..which usually are the pipes ones :) so do try to listen to that if you are looking for the folkoric musics :) else there are those that i have mentionned. and now if i can allow myself try these ones..Top 5 of the moment =) ::: #1. What's the cheapest way to fly into the United Kingdom?
Q. I'm considering taking a trip with my girlfriend (in fact, as a possible honeymoon) to the United Kingdom. We don't have a WHOLE lot of money and flying into London is expensive. Can you suggest some cheaper airports to fly into maybe no more than a few hours away in which we could take a train into London? Can you offer any other travel advice? I have been to Ireland (well, just Dublin) so I'm not totally unfamiliar with international travel but any advice would be solid.
Asked by Sullivan Smith - Tue Nov 17 20:35:35 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. From what I've heard, taking a train can be very pricey. I was just reading in the paper today that British Airways is posting some really good rates. A flight from NY to London is about $225 one way but that's excluding taxes and fees. Just for the heck of it I did a sample itinerary and it would be $1250 for 2 people round trip. That's pretty good - when my husband and I went to London over the summer we paid $1572.

How Can I obtain Citizenship in the United Kingdom?
Q. I'm currently an American citizen but would like to have citizenship in the United kingdom [because i'm planning on moving there]. I was wondering what steps I would have to take, to become a citizen?
Asked by Kristin Since 1987 - Thu Nov 8 03:05:55 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The steps are: Work permit, Indefinite Leave to Remain, and Naturalization. Each one takes a bit of bureaucracy. The whole process takes at least five years, but usually longer. Why don't you get the work permit and move over first. You can decide about the citizenship later. There are many 100,000s of US citizens living in the UK. Not everyone bothers to get citizenship, as with "Indefinite Leave to Remain", you can live there as long as you like. Its like a Green Card in the US.

A. It's much easier to have him apply for your Fiance visa. Unless you have at least a Masters degree and a high salary, you can't get a work visa on your own. But he can sponsor you for a fiance visa as long as you get married within 90 days of arriving

Asked by jan - Tue Jan 23 12:08:44 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Well, you've got two questions there. Firstly, VHS. Take it to a video shop, somebody ought to have the equipment to exchange the PAL/NTSC formats. Or buy a dual format video (many video players already play both PAL and NTSC, though you might need to flick a switch). Secondly, DVD. There is no format difference between US and UK. However, many DVDs - especially movies - contain a region encoding. In this case you should buy a multi-region DVD player (there are loads of these about as well).
